Free Medical Screening — Agric Community & Baobakrom

Date: July 19, 2024
Location: Agric Community & Baobakrom, Sekondi-Takoradi Municipality

Background: Agric Community and Baobakrom were selected as the first stops of ACE CORPS’ 3rd Quarter outreach, based on consultations with community leaders and public health officers who identified both as home to significant underprivileged and aged populations lacking access to basic healthcare.

Objectives:
Deliver free medical screening to aged and underprivileged residents
Ease the financial burden of healthcare access
Diagnose and flag cases of hypertension, high blood glucose, and eye problems
Reduce anxiety around access to medical care for the underprivileged
Strengthen ties between ACE CORPS, local leadership, and health services

Diagnosis Outcomes:
Condition Agric Community Baobakrom Combined Total
Hypertension 63 57 120
Eye Conditions 13 24 37
High Glucose 8 12 20
Total 84 93 177
Community Standing:
Agric Community recorded the highest hypertension count of all three outreach communities (63 cases — 40% of the entire outreach’s HPT diagnoses)
Baobakrom recorded the second-highest hypertension count (57 cases — 36% of the outreach total)
Together, these two communities accounted for 76% of all hypertension diagnoses recorded across the full 3rd Quarter outreach

Outcome: Combined, Agric Community and Baobakrom revealed a concentrated hypertension burden among their aged populations, underlining a priority area for ACE CORPS’ follow-up and continued support.
