Background: Following the July screening outreach, ACE CORPS turned its attention to a second critical health need: the chronically low blood supply at Takoradi Government Hospital’s blood bank. Inadequate blood stock across sub-regional hospitals often leads to excessive blood loss — and in severe cases, preventable deaths — during emergencies. To address this, ACE CORPS partnered with Macro Shipping Company, a logistics and haulage company based in Takoradi, to organize a dedicated blood donation exercise
Objectives:
Supplement the inadequate blood supply at Takoradi Hospital’s blood bank
Educate staff on the importance and safety of blood donation
Build a sustainable corporate partnership model for future blood drives
Support emergency and critical-care patients at the hospital
Partnership: Macro Shipping’s management and staff welcomed the initiative, formalizing a partnership agreement with ACE CORPS to support the hospital’s blood bank needs.
Process:
Engagement & Education — ACE CORPS medical team briefed staff on the importance of blood donation
Screening — Staff underwent eligibility tests (health checks, vitals, etc.)
Donation — Eligible staff were guided through the donation process in a supervised setting
Certification — Donors received official blood donation certificates
Outcome: The exercise was well received by both Macro Shipping and Takoradi Hospital management, who expressed appreciation for the gesture. It marked ACE CORPS’ first corporate partnership of this kind and demonstrated a replicable model for future workplace-based blood drives.
Recommendations: ACE CORPS intends to pursue similar partnerships with other companies to sustain blood bank support, and is seeking sponsors to help fund larger-scale future health initiatives — including support for surgeries and more complex medical cases
